Vernon honors outstanding athletes
Vernon. Nolan Shade of the boys' soccer team, Riley Wallace of the girls' soccer team, Rebecca Bogdewicz of the field hockey team and Julia Badillo of the volleyball team were named Vernon Township High School Athletes of the Week for the fall 2019 season.
The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. has named its Athletes of the Week for Weeks 8 and 9 of the fall 2019 season.
Sophomore Riley Wallace scored 2 goals and had 1 assist in the Varsity Girls Soccer Teams 3-1 win over Sussex Tech last week.
According to Coach Carlson, she has played her best soccer of the season over the last two weeks. She has been a workhorse for the team playing the striker position.
Riley is also a member of the varsity indoor and Outdoor Track Teams.
Junior Nolan Shade had the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to High Point last week for the Varsity Boys Soccer Team. Nolan has shown steady and consistent play out of the midfield position this season for the team.
According to Coach Jones, Nolan has great work ethic at practice and in games and his passion and intensity is contagious. He is always willing to take on any role that is asked of him. He has been a great role model for the younger players to follow.
Junior Rebecca Bogdewicz has been an integral part of the varsity field hockey teams defense all season. Her specialty is restarts and she helps the team in transition from defense to offense.
According to Coach Killeen, Rebecca was instrumental in the teams run through the state playoffs and was named player of the game in the sectional final against West Essex.
Junior Julia Badillo of the Varsity Volleyball Team had ten digs in their state playoff game against Barnegat last week.
According to Coach Sorensen, Julia has grown into one of the team's strongest defenders with 180 digs for the year. She has also become a leader with a consistent demeanor and positive team first attitude.
