Vernon honors outstanding athletes

The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. has named its athletes of the week for Week 5 of the fall 2019 season.

Junior Captain Kaitlyn Buurman had a great week for the varsity girls volleyball team last week. The team won all of four matches. She tallied 24 kills, 18 digs and 3 aces.

According to Coach Sorensen, Kaitlyn’s dedication and high level of play has been an integral part of the team chemistry this season. She has continued to grow as a player and a leader, which has also been a large reason for the team’s success thus far.

Senior Captain and Goalkeeper Ryan Lally led the Varsity Boys Soccer Team to two victories this past week. One of those victories, a shutout over Wallkill Valley. Ryan currently has a 1.1 goals against average and has made over 100 saves.

According to Coach Jones, Ryan has been instrumental as a captain and leader of the team. He has earned the respect of his opponents, the opposing coaching staffs and the officials. He demonstrates great work ethic both on and off the field in practices as well as in the classroom.
