Mayor should return memorial

This is in defense of Sally Rinker, who recently had to endure the pain of Vernon Mayor Anthony Rossi removing the memorial of Jason Rinker from the town center park and pump track.

This has been in place since November of 2023 and was lawfully approved at that time.

Why all of a sudden under a new mayor has this memorial been removed? As mayor of our town, how would he have the time to even get involved with an issue of such trivial proportions? There are so many more important matters of concern that need to be dealt with.

This appears to be a direct attack against Sally Rinker and her son, Jason, and should never be tolerated in our town. This monument was designated as a lasting tribute to Jason Rinker in representation of his life and legacy.

A line has definitely been crossed here. How can someone be allowed to dishonor Sally Rinker’s deceased son and inflict so much pain and suffering on her and her family? How does the mayor have the authority to perform an act of such monumental proportions?

The tragic reality of all this is that we have lost our moral compass in this country. There is no place for oppression or injustice in our society and everyone should stand up against this.

I hope our mayor makes the right choice and returns Jason Rinker’s memorial back to its rightful place. This action would hopefully ease some of the tensions that were created in our town with regard to this ongoing conflict.

Meeting so many kind people who have supported me in my endeavors still gives me hope for the future of our society.

In closing, I want to say that love is the only emotion that could ever overcome hate. It is always kind, does not dishonor others, has the power to prevail over many obstacles and never delights in evil. Love never ever fails.
