In conjunction with Operation Yellow Ribbon, the Vernon Township Woman's Club is sending Christmas stockings stuffed with snacks and personal care items to U.S. troops serving overseas.
Using colorful holiday fabric, Club President Lois Marples hand-made fifteen beautiful 18” stockings which were filled with granola bars, nuts, candy, macaroni & cheese, toothbrushes, dental floss and much more.
Based in South Jersey, Operation Yellow Ribbon's mission is to collect supplies and goodies for care packages sent to our brave soldiers deployed in harm's way in the Middle East including Iraq and Afghanistan, and those supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve. In 2019, the organization has already sent 52,000 pounds of goodies to our troops.
The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) adopted the military stocking program about 10 years ago. Women’s clubs throughout the state, including the Vernon Township club, contribute about 1,000 filled stockings to the cause. The stockings are collected at NJSFWC headquarters in New Brunswick, and then delivered to Operation Yellow Ribbon's location in Marlton, NJ. From there they are shipped to military bases around the world.
