As a former councilperson of Vernon, I am writing this in utter distaste of an action taken by the mayor of our town, Anthony Rossi.
I was on the council when this memorial donation was announced by the then-Mayor Howard Burrell.
This flagpole and memorial was entirely a private donation made by his family.
It has now become a political revenge action of the new mayor against former Mayor Sally Rinker for calling him on many erroneous actions he has taken.
As a former council member, my concern is the precedent being set by this action. This sets no limits on what can be done to retaliation of political adversaries.
Vernon is better than this, and the lack of good will must be stopped.
