Murphy should end bear hunt

If there ever was a time for Governor Murphy to keep his promise and stop the bear hunt, that time is now.

Recently, over 2,200 acres of prime black bear habitat burned in West Milford and another 200 acres burned in Rockaway.

According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, forest fires burn on average 7,000 acres in the state each year ... and 99 percent of these fires are human-caused.

Climate change is also leading to dry conditions and longer wildfire seasons.

Can you imagine the fear and agony our wildlife suffers in these fires? And how many have perished? Why let trophy hunters add to their pain?

The bear hunt is a cruel blood sport that Governor Murphy promised to end. He needs to honor this promise once and for all.

Our bears, and all of our wildlife, have suffered enough.
