Wild Turkey repeats as employee champion
Hardyston. The Wild Turkey Golf Club wins the Crystal Springs 2019 Employee Cup championship, edging out the employees from Ballyowen.
A highlight of the golf season for the employees of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort is the playing of the Employee Cup Championship.
This season marked the playing of the 23rd Annual Employee Cup Championship at Ballyowen Golf Club on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Teams from each of the Resort’s golf courses, Ballyowen, Wild Turkey, Crystal Springs, Cascades and Minerals held qualifying events to determine the 8-member team to represent them in this traditional event. The winning team earns the honor of having their Course Team’s name engraved on the perpetual Employee Cup Trophy.
The Employee Cup Championship golfers competed at their home golf course to qualify to represent their course in the championship. Each golf course was represented by two teams of 8 golfers. The format of play was a 4-golfer team scramble and the lowest score achieved by course team with the lowest combined score earned the honor of having their team name added to the Employee Cup trophy. The team score of 16 under par 56 achieved by the Wild Turkey Team was good enough to defeat the 2nd place Ballyowen Team’s 13 under par 59 to claim the victory and become the 2019 champions.
The Black Bear Team claimed 3rd place with an 11-under par. The Crystal Springs Team took 4th place with a score of 9 under par followed by the Cascades Team with an 8 under par with the Minerals Team finishing in last place with a score of 7 over par. However the Minerals Team made up for their finish by taking the prize for the highest score on the Walton Inflated Bulls Eye competition. The winning team members were awarded $100 Resort Credit Cards with the last place team provided with a free David Leadbetter Group golf lesson.
Golfers also competed in 4 skill events, men’s closest to the pin, women’s closest to the pin and men’s and women’s longest drive. The winner of the Men’s closest to the pin competition on hole #11 was Ron Kibtlewski with his ball coming to rest 10 feet 9 inches from the pin while Karen Law won the Woman’s honors with a shot that landed 7 feet 9 inches from the pin. Hike Harris was the winner of Men’s longest drive with Karen Law becoming a repeat winner by hitting the longest drive for the women.
