Volunteers needed for special Olympics

    Special Olympics New Jersey is seeking volunteers for the 2014 Winter Games, which take place on Jan. 27-29 at Mountain Creek in Vernon and Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.

    Volunteers must register online at www.sonj.org under “volunteer.” The online system allows volunteers to view available positions and sign up for the shifts they are interested in. Some, but not all, volunteer position require skiing experience. Most volunteer positions are for volunteers ages 16 and older; however, there are limited positions for volunteers younger than age 16.

    Mountain Creek hosts two full days of Alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing on Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Speed skating competition will take place on Tuesday only from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Skylands Ice World.

    Approximately 500 athletes from across the state will compete.
