Struble is leader on Drew basketball team
HAMBURG. The Wallkill Valley Regional High School graduate starts in 17 of the first 18 regular-season games.
Several local student athletes are gaining notice in collegiate sports this season:
• Jamie Struble, a graduate of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, is a senior forward on the women’s basketball team at Drew University in Madison.
She competed in each of the first 18 regular-season contests and started in 17 of them. She led the team in points per game (11.6), rebounds (128), steals (38) and blocks (14).
On Saturday, Feb. 3, the Rangers are scheduled to host Juniata College in a Landmark Conference game.
Struble is listed as a biology major.
• Brian Soldano, a graduate of High Point Regional High School, is a sophomore wrestler in the 184-pound weight class for the Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
Through Friday, Jan. 26, he had an overall record of 10-6, with six victories in dual meets. He was ranked in the top 25 in his weight class by the website Intermat on Jan. 9.
After 12 dual meets, the Scarlet Knights had an overall record of 10-2, with a mark of 4-1 on their home mat.
On Sunday, Feb. 4, they are scheduled to host Ohio State in a Big 10 Conference match.
• Daniel and Shawn Falk, both graduates of Wallkill Valley, are members of the men’s basketball team at Centenary University in Hackettstown.
Shawn, a senior guard, played in each of the first 19 regular-season games and started in 14 of them. He had 62 rebounds, 25 assists, 11 steals and three blocks during that time. He also averaged 6.8 points per game.
Daniel, a sophomore guard, competed in nine of the first 19 games and had five rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. He averaged 2.4 points per game.
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, Centenary is slated to host Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Shawn is listed as a business management major, and Daniel as a business administration major.
• Trinity Hartung (Wallkill Valley) is a first-year guard for the women’s basketball team at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham campus.
She played in two of the first 17 regular-season games.
After 17 games, the Devils had an overall record of 9-8, with a mark of 7-2 on their home court. In the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Division, they had two victories.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the team is slated to host Arcadia University in a MAC Freedom Division contest.
Hartung is listed as a psychology major.
• Arik Hums (High Point) is a freshman on the Centenary wrestling team.
Through January, the Cyclones had a dual meet record of 2-0.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, they are scheduled to host Delaware Valley University.
Hums is listed as a sports management major.
