Rowan pitches for Kean
SUSSEX. Nolan Rowan, a graduate of High Point Regional High School, struck out 64 batters - the second-highest number on the team - during the spring.
Several local student athletes competed well in collegiate sports during the spring:
• Nolan Rowan, a graduate of High Point Regional High School, was a senior pitcher for the baseball team at Kean University in Union.
He played in 13 games and started in 11 of them with a 3.70 earned run average. He struck out 64 batters - the second-highest number on the team.
The Cougars posted an overall record of 27-15 with a mark of 17-7 on their home field and a 12-6 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Kean defeated Stockton University in the NJAC Tournament and lost to Rowan University twice.
• Gianna Wingle, a High Point graduate, was a freshman competitor in sprints for the Caldwell University women’s outdoor track and field program.
She was a part of the 4-by-100 relay team that placed sixth at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships, hosted by Georgian Court in Lakewood.
The Cougars placed ninth in the team scoring at the CACC Championships.
Wingle is listed as a psychology major.
• Logan Howell, a graduate of Vernon Township High School, was a freshman on the Caldwell University men’s outdoor track and field team.
He placed fourth in the javelin throw at the CACC Championships.
The Cougars placed sixth in the team scoring at the CACC Championships.
Howell is listed as a financial economics major.
• Aidan Mitchell, a High Point graduate, was a freshman outfielder for the baseball team at Drew University in Madison.
He played in 39 games and started in 38 of them. He had a .219 batting average and 30 hits, including seven doubles, three triples (tied for second on the team), 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
The Rangers posted an overall record of 22-18 with a mark of 13-4 on their home field and 13 victories in the Landmark Conference. Drew lost a one-run game to Susquehanna University in the Landmark Conference Championships, held in Selinsgrove, Pa.
Mitchell is listed as a business major.
• Emily Rhode, a Vernon graduate, was a sophomore on the Drew University women’s golf team.
She placed 19th at the Landmark Conference Championships, held at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Pennsylvania.
The Rangers placed second as a team at the championships.
