Local gymnasts win competitions
FRANKLIN — Westys Gymnastics Team in Franklin put an exclamation mark on a successful 2017 season when not one. but two of their gymnasts were crowned regional champions.
The USAIGC Regional Gymnastics Championship took place May 26-28 at the Wildwood Convention Center in Wildwood, NJ. Over 900 Gymnasts from Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts competed in the championship.
Westys was represented at the competition by Adrianna Barone and Elizabeth Byra of Stockholm, Samie Copley of Vernon, Sabrina Dispenziere of Sandyston, Lexi Ingoglia of Lake Hopatcong, Moya Lynch and Rachael Mckenna of Wantage , Chelsea Smith of Hamburg and Cassandra Sullivan of Sparta.
Samie Copley was crowned the All-Around Champion in the 11 year old Bronze Division with a score of 34.90. Copley also earned the Gold Medal on the Floor Exercise with a score of 9.425, placed 4th on Vault, 6th on Balance Beam and 9th on Uneven Bars.
Lexi Ingoglia of Lake Hopatcong, NJ was crowned the All-Around Champion in the 9 year old Bronze Division with a score of 35.40. Ingoglia placed 2nd on Vault, 4th on Uneven Bars, 4th on Balance Beam and 5th on Floor Exercise.
Top 10 Finishes were also recorded by Cassandra Sullivan of Sparta who placed 7th on the Floor Exercise in the 13 year old Bronze Division and Moya Lynch of Wantage, NJ who placed 10th on the Balance Beam in the 9 year old Bronze Division.
The team gymnasts are coached by Westys Owner Danielle Oehrlich and former Westy’s Gymnasts Marisa Bortone and Nicole Swank.
