Football roundup: High Point defeats Lenape Valley

High Point defeated Lenape Valley, 21-14, there Friday, Oct. 11.

The Wildcats’ record improved to 6-1. The team remains atop the SFC American Blue division.

Quarterback John Elko made two touchdowns for High Point and Slade Muller added another. Mark Leach made two extra points on a pass from Elko, and Jacob Woods kicked one extra point.

Chase De Oliveira and David Holeman each made a touchdown for the Patriots (2-5). Tanner Gaboda kicked two extra points.

Jerron Martress of High Point rushed for 153 yards. Elko completed five of eight pass attempts for a total of 67 yards.

Wallkill Valley wins

Wallkill Valley beat Whippany Park, 16-7, there Thursday, Oct. 10.

Ryder Accardi made two touchdowns on passes from Zack Clarken for the Rangers (5-2). Cole Bolich kicked two extra points. The team also made a two-point safety.

Patrick Dalgauer posted the only score for Whippany Park (2-4) and Brandon Giangeruso kicked one extra point.

Clarken completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for a total of 154 yards. He also rushed for 79 yards.

Newton wins

Newton defeated Hackettstown, 27-7, at home Oct. 11.

Nick Kurilko made three touchdowns for the Braves (4-2) and Evan Cotter added another. Kyle Dickson made two extra points, and Brady Bollette kicked one extra point.

EJ Ruyol posted the only points for Hackettstown (3-3) and Bader Musa kicked one extra point.

Kurilko rushed for 159 yards, followed by Cotter with 127 and Anthony Tudda with 103.

Hackettstown quarterback Nicholas Patterson completed five of 11 pass attempts for a total of 93 yards.

Vernon is shut out

Mount Olive defeated Vernon, 28-0, at home Oct. 10.

Vincent Carpini made two touchdowns for Mount Olive (4-2) and Lincoln Youtz and Brayden Longo each made one. Colby Batsch kicked four extra points.

Quarterback Jake Asbury completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for a total of 179 yards.

Thomas Benson rushed for 60 yards for the Vikings (3-4).

Quarterback Aden Karwoski completed five of 10 pass attempts for a total of 28 yards.

Kittatinny wins

Kittatinny beat Sussex Tech, 21-14, at home Saturday, Oct. 12. Both teams now have 3-3 records this season.

After a scoreless first quarter, Jack Brex and Niko Martinez made a touchdown each for the Cougars in the second quarter. Mike Strong added another in the third quarter. Lucas Inglima kicked three extra points.

Brian Gruber scored twice for the Mustangs and he kicked two extra points. He also rushed for 162 yards during the game.

Brex completed seven of nine pass attempts for a total of 81 yards.

Sussex Tech freshman quarterback Cole Young completed five of 11 attempts for a total of 78 yards.

Pope John wins

Pope John defeated Seton Hall Prep, 26-20, there Oct. 12 for its second win this season.

Tyler Houser, Joseph Rozynski, Wes Johnston and Tylik Hill each made a touchdown for the Lions (2-4). Hill also made two extra points on a pass from quarterback Luke Irwin.

Jayden Crawford, Joseph Proscia and Matthew Bergwall each scored for Seton Hall, and Declan Farrell kicked two extra points.

Rozynski’s score was on an 86-yard pass from Hill, who also rushed for 193 yards during the game.

Irwin completed 12 of 16 pass attempts for a total of 92 yards.

Seton Hall quarterback Jack Gilmore completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for a total of 159 yards.

Jefferson loses

Jefferson fell to Hanover Park, 42-7, there Oct. 10.

Joey Borrello made two touchdowns for Hanover Park (6-0) and Joey Tantawi, Luke Morgese, Joey Filippone and Dante Rosato each added one. Ryan Galioto kicked six extra points.

Jason Post scored the only touchdown for the Falcons (1-6) on a pass from Connor Consiglio. Jack Reed kicked the extra point.

Consiglio completed 17 of 37 pass attempts for a total of 176 yards.

Borrello completed all seven of his pass attempts for a total of 124 yards. He also rushed for 83 yards.

Hopatcong loses

Hopatcong lost to Kinnelon, 35-7, at home Oct. 10.

Zach Grande made two touchdowns and Matthew Siciliano, Chase Murphy and Anthony Yannuzzi each added one for Kinnelon (3-4). Anthony Manna kicked five extra points.

Siciliano rushed for 154 yards.

Hopatcong’s only score came in the first quarter. The team has yet to win a game this season.
