HARDYSTON — Members of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort have been competing in monthly Member Appreciation Tournaments on a monthly basis throughout the 2016 golf season with members vying for a spot in the end of year Crystal Cup Championship.
The winning golfers and participants in each of these Crystal Cup Qualifiers earned points toward qualifying of the end of year championship.
On Wednesday, Oct. 19, those golfers who had qualified for the Championship gathered at the Ballyowen Golf Club to compete for the cherished Crystal Cup awarded to the top performers in the Men’s Division, Ladies Division and Senior Men’s Division.
The Crystal Cup Championship followed a stroke play format with the golfers with the lowest net score in each of the three divisions recognized as the winners of the day’s tournament and earning additional points toward the honor of being named the 2016 Crystal Cup champions.
When the scorecards were tallied the winner of the days event in the Men’s Division was Bob Wallerius followed by Gene Komorowski in second place and Alvin Viray in third. Top honor in the Senior Men’s Division was awarded to Bill Iolonardi, with Ed Lemire taking 2nd and Steve Van Dyke third. Dona Wallerius continued to dominate the Ladies Division by capturing another win with Patricia Zakur taking second and Buffy Whiting in third.
Low Gross prizes were awarded to Sang Soo Lee in the Men’s Division for his score of 74 with Alice Kwon earning the prize for Ladies Low Gross with her score of 82. Bob Mosier’s 82 was good enough to earn him the title in the Senior Men’s Division. Each winner was awarded a $100 Resort Gift Card.
The event’s long drive and closest to the pin winners were Bob Spetz whose tee shot landed 8’3” from the pin on hole No. 4 and Alice Kwon whose ball came to rest just 15” from the pin on hole No. 11. The Men’s Long Drive winners was John Dankwerth while Joe Giammariono took the Senior Men’s Long Drive Competition and Ladies Division honors in the long drive competition went to Donna Wallerius.
