April 14, 2008 Sean Schinzel, age 32, of Hopatcong, pled guilty to the third degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He is scheduled for sentencing on May 19. He admitted to possessing cocaine on September 20, 2007 in Hopatcong. The matter was investigated by Hopatcong Police Sgt. Thomas Kmetz. Kyle Corbran, age 19, of Highland Lakes, pled guilty to the third degree crime of burglary, two counts of fourth degree theft and third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He is scheduled for sentencing on June 13. He admitted to possessing a small amount of heroin in Vernon Township on November 22, 2007 and that he entered a motor vehicle and stole a camera from it on one occasion, and stole a reciprocating saw on another occasion Dana Villano, age 22, of Sussex, pled guilty to the third degree crime of forgery. She is scheduled for sentencing on June 13. She admitted passing several counterfeit $20 bills in order to obtain products and change in the Township of Vernon. A juvenile, who pled guilty on April 10, to three count of third degree burglary, was sentenced. He was adjudicated a juvenile delinquent by the court. The juvenile, 16, was sentenced to 18 months probation on condition that he serve 15 days in the Juvenile Detention Center (5 days to be served during spring break from school and 10 days suspended) and a 6-month loss of driver’s license. He must also pay restitution of $1859.04 to the victim, attend school every day and follow all home and school rules, submit a DNA sample and undergo random drug testing. The juvenile broke into the U-Save Gas Station in Newton on three different occasions by smashing out the front glass door. Dennis Defreese, 29, of Haskell, pled guilty to the third degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and fourth degree attempted theft. He is scheduled for sentencing on June 13. He admitted to possessing one MDMA tablet, also known as Ecstasy, in Hardyston Township on Jan. 4, and to attempting to steal an X-box in Hardyston Township on Feb. 1. George Morehouse, 35 of Newton, pled guilty to violating his probation and was sentenced to a term of extended probation for one year. Defendant must comply with the original conditions of probation as well as enroll in intensive outpatient counseling. He initially pled guilty on Nov. 28, 2006 to aggravated assault, a third degree crime. A juvenile pled guilty on April 14, to third degree conspiracy to commit arson. He was adjudicated a juvenile delinquent by the court. The juvenile, age 16, was sentenced to 12 months probation on condition that he serve 30 days in the Juvenile Detention Center with a credit of 12 days, balance suspended and a three month loss of his driver’s license starting today. He must also complete 40 hours of community service, pay restitution to the victim, attend school every day and follow all home and school rules, submit a DNA sample, undergo random drug testing, undergo a fire-starter evaluation and follow recommendations, have no contact with co-defendants and testify truthfully against any co-defendants. The juvenile and several other juvenile co-defendants set off an explosive device using gasoline on the Lenape Valley Regional High School baseball outfield while teams were practicing on adjacent fields. April 16 Gregory Bracco, 21 of Hoptacong, pled guilty to violating his probation and was sentenced to 364 days in county jail with credit for 137 days time served. Probation was terminated as unimproved. He initially pled guilty on March 16, 2007 to third degree crime of accomplice liability to possess heroin. April 17, 2008 Mark Levin, age 47, of Highland Lakes, pled guilty third degree aggravated assault, driving while suspended, driving without insurance and leaving the scene of an accident. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 13. He admitted to colliding with the rear end of a vehicle belonging to a Vernon resident and then leaving the scene. Patrycja Rzemien, age 19 of Wallington was indicted with theft, a third degree crime. The case was investigated by Detective Brian Jernick of the Vernon Township Police Department. The grand jury alleges that on August 22, 2007 the defendant, while employed for a local cleaning service, took jewelry belonging to one of the homeowners the service was employed by. Arraignment before the Superior Court in Newton will be within the next six weeks. A Grand jury indictment is a charge only. The defendant is presumed innocent until guilt may be proved at a jury trial. Nicola S. Earle, age 33 of Hackensack, was indicted on April 15 with four counts of third degree forgery, four counts of fourth degree identity theft and one count of fourth degree theft by deception. The case was investigated by Detective Neil Casey of the Town of Newton Police Department. The grand jury alleges that between August 27, 2005 and November 23, 2005, the defendant obtained identification information of another and used it for her own benefit. Arraignment before the Superior Court in Newton will be within the next six weeks. A grand jury indictment is a charge only. The defendant is presumed innocent until guilt may be proved at a jury trial. April 18, 2008 Shayne B. Ogden, age 45 of Avenel, was sentenced to seven and a half years state prison with a three year period of parole ineligibility consecutive to his current sentence. Defendant must register under Megan’s Law, be subject to parole supervision for life and submit a DNA sample. Fines and costs are in the amount of $155. Between December 26, 1998 and December 31, 2000 the defendant had sexual contact with a minor who was less than 13 years old on multiple occasions for the defendant’s sexual pleasure. Jacklyn Barretto, age 23 of Hamburg, was sentenced to two years probation and community service. She must pay restitution to her victims. She admitted to applying via Internet to Chase Bank for a credit card in a relative’s name. In another incident, she admitted to taking $266.84 worth of video game controllers and other electronics from the Hampton WalMart. Carl Ferriere, age 57 of Sandyston, was sentenced to probation for 18 months. As a condition of Ferriere’s probation he is to serve 30 days in the Sussex County Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program and to participate in therapy as recommended in his psychosexual report. Ferriere was also ordered to pay $155 in fines. He pled guilty on February 20, 2008 and entered a guilty plea to an accusation charging him with the fourth degree charge of possession of child pornography. Ferriere admitted to the court that between November 30, 2003 and September 6, 2005, he had knowingly possessed numerous images of children engaged in prohibited sexual acts or in simulation of such acts and that he did so by storing those images on his computer. Barid Thornton, age 57 of Newton was sentenced to 364 days in county jail with time served (88 days), must attend counseling and submit a DNA sample. Fines and costs are in the amount of $280. He pled guilty on March 17, 2008 to fourth degree crime of hindering the apprehension of another and to the disorderly persons offense of hindering the apprehension of himself. During the course of a motor vehicle stop by Hamburg Police Officer David McNulty on January 21, 2008, he attempted to help another person hide illegal drugs in the car and gave the police a false name in order to avoid being arrested on an outstanding bench warrant from municipal court. Michael Salsano, age 18, of Sparta, was sentenced to two years probation on condition that he serve four days in the county jail. Other conditions of probation are that he must enter and complete and intensive outpatient treatment program, submit DNA sample, undergo random drug monitoring obtain and maintain employment, pay $600 restitution to the victim (joint/several) and court fines of $125. He pled guilty on February 4, 2008, to fourth degree criminal trespass. The defendant, along with three juvenile co-defendants, broke into the home of the victim while they were away. April 22, 2008 Steven Ceragioli, age 48, of Wantage pled guilty to unlawful possession of a shotgun, a third degree crime and aggravated assault for pointing a firearm at or in the direction of members of the New Jersey State Police, a fourth degree crime. Sentencing is presently scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2008. Defendant’s indictment arose from an incident that occurred on March 17, 2008, when the New Jersey State Police were called to respond to 3 Volcanic Hill Road, Wantage, for a call of shots fired. The state police responded to that location and were met by the defendant who was verbally threatening the troopers and ultimately fired several shots in the direction of the state police troopers at the scene resulting in a lengthy standoff. There were no injuries to the state police, civilians or the defendant. At the time the defendant entered his guilty plea, Ceragioli admitted that on March 17, 2007, he had fired several shots in the direction of the state troopers and that he had done so using a shotgun in his possession that he did not first obtain a firearms purchaser identification card in accordance with New Jersey law. April 21, 2008 Ericka Ferguson, age 32, of Newark, pled guilty to third degree identity theft. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 20. She admitted to using false identification at the Wachovia Bank to obtain money fraudulently. April 24, 2008 Adrian Carel, age 27 of Hamburg pled guilty to fourth degree forgery and fourth degree uttering a document. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 20. He admitted to fabricating a return to work/school document by forging an area physician’s name and submitting the document to a government agency in an attempt to avoiding serving a Municipal Court sentence. Frank E. Ramsey, age 50 of Andover, was sentenced to seven years state prison with 270 days credit. Defendant must register under Megan’s Law, be subject to Parole Supervision for Life, submit a DNA sample and have no contact with the victim or victim’s family. Fines and costs are in the amount of $2,105. Between August 1 and August 30, 2005 the defendant touched the genital area of a female victim that was less than 13 years old for his own sexual gratification. April 25, 2008 Paul A. Foglia, age 47 of Wayne, was sentenced to life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison with a period of parole ineligibility of 63 and ¾ years. Fines and costs in the amount of $280. A jury convicted the defendant on March 17, 2008 of first degree purposeful or knowing Murder of Dr. Elizabeth Lott, fourth degree Criminal Trespass and third degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.
