Vernon Township Police receive plaque from local Special Olympics teams
The Vernon PBA will once again be participating in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, scheduled for Friday, June 10, at Mountain Creek.
The Vernon Township Police Department recently thanked the local Special Olympics teams, the Vernon Express/Sussex Rollers, for presenting a plaque of gratitude to the department on May 27.
For over 20 years, the Vernon PBA has participated in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money for Special Olympic athletes. The department has also participated in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge and Plane Pull.
This year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run is scheduled for Friday, June 10. The Vernon leg of the run begins at Mountain Creek north at 6:30 a.m. The torch will continue to be passed off from town to town until it reaches Trenton, NJ, where they will have the opening Special Olympics ceremony. So far, for this year’s torch run, the Vernon PBA has already raised over $3,000 in donations for the NJ Special Olympics.
In a statement the Vernon police said, “Good luck to our Special Olympic athletes in this year’s games!”
