Members of the Vernon Township Woman’s Club hosted volunteers from clubs throughout the Highlands District of New Jersey on Monday, Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

They took part in a National Day of Service project with items collected by clubs throughout the district for the benefit of the Center for Family Services in Newton.

The items included essentials for newborns and babies, welcome baskets filled with household products for the domestic violence program, and backpack care kits for teens and young adults who are couch-surfing or living on the streets.

The district collected and donated 1,806 items valued at about $5,795 to families in need.
