VTHS students cook up Italian feast
VERNON — One of the pleasures of acquiring a new language is learning about a new culture as well.
Nothing brought the Italian IV Honors students more pleasure this year than cooking up an Italian feast as part of a cross-curricular project with Mrs. Marjorie Cobley’s International Chefs class. Students chose recipes to create a cookbook featuring antipasti/appetizers, primo/pasta, secondo/entree and dolce/dessert. The project culminated in a four-course meal prepared by the students.
The Italian students chose Italian recipes from different regions in Italy, translating them into Italian along the way. They also wrote a short explanation regarding the significance of the recipe to the region. The menu included antipasto of insalata caprese and arancini with fontina cheese; pasta/ primo of Bucatini all'Amatriciana, entree/secondo, Cotolette di pollo francese, and dessert/dolce of homemade cannoli (shells and cream) and tiramisù.
