Vernon Woman's Club plants Pinwheels for Prevention
VERNON — The general Woman’s Club was founded in 1890 by Jane Cunningham Croly with the philosophy of making a positive difference in communities and people’s lives.
Adhering to the club principles, Cunningham Croly, today there are 3,000 Woman’s Clubs in the US with nearly 80,000 members.
April is Childhood Abuse Prevention month. In 2008, the organization Prevent Childhood Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as the national symbol of childhood abuse prevention. The pinwheel is a sweet reminder that every child deserves and is entitled to nothing less than a great childhood.
Locally, the Vernon Township Woman’s Club was out on Saturday April 6 actively participating by “planting” pinwheel gardens at the Vernon Municipal Building, the Vernon PAL and the Walnut Ridge School. This year as well as next year’s Woman’s Club pinwheel donations will benefit CASA. CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, is a volunteer organization that assists abused children in foster care and eventually helps them reach their permanent, loving homes.
