Vernon residents get bald for a good cause

Mary Ayn Meidling of Roxbury's Nino's Expressions takes a little off the top for McAfee firefighter Tom O'Brien during Saturday's the St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser held at the Route 94 firehouse. It was O'Brien's first haircut in three or four months and it should last him a while.

Nicki Clemens of Roxbury's Nino's Expressions gives Chris Ross, 16, of Vernon a trim.

Radio personality Jim Borasio of Vernon, the morning DJ at radio station WNNJ 103.7 came in for a buzz cut. Throughout the week, he helped promote the event on his radio program. Mary Ayn Meidling of Roxbury's Nino's Expressions tried to be gentle with him.
VERNON — By early afternoon the McAfee Fire Department had raised over $5,000 to go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The foundation is a research group for childhood cancers. The amount, according to the foundation's website, includes both online donations as well as the money that was raised during the hair raising, hair cutting event.
