VERNON — Nearly dozens of local children and their folks came out for this year’s annual Vernon PAL Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 26, at the Fireman's Pavilion Pond, next to the Vernon Fire Department on Route 15.
Two sessions of fishing, Grades K-2 and 3-6, allowed the youngsters the chance to catch some of the 100 trout once again donated by Vernon’s Double “V” Rod & Gun Club. Prizes for this year’s event were donated by the new Mountain Mike’s Sport Shop, located on Old Rudetown Road in McAfee. The largest trout stocked this year measured 16 inches.
Additional native fish in the pond include large mouth bass and sunfish, which were the prevalent catch of the day.
