Vernon PAL holds fishing derby

    A great day for fishingÖ ï Kayli OíRourke, 5, and her sister Alexa, 6, headed out with their dad Ed of Vernon for a morning of fishing. They came home with a First Place trophy for largest fish, a 15-1/2-inch rainbow trout. They released the fish in waters near their home. ï VERNON ó Last Saturday nearly dozens of local children and their folks came out for this yearís annual Vernon PAL Fishing Derby. The event was held at the Firemenís Pavilion Pond, next the Vernon Fire Department on Route 515. Two sessions of fishing, Grades K-2 and 3-6, allowed the youngsters the chance to catch some of the 100 trout once again donated by Vernonís Double ìVî Rod & Gun Club. Prizes for this yearís event were donated by the new Mountain Mikeís Sport Shop located on Old Rudetown Road in McAfee.ï The largest trout stocked this year measured 16 inches. Additional native fish in the pond include large mouth bass and sunfish, which were the prevalent catch of the day.

VERNON — Nearly dozens of local children and their folks came out for this year’s annual Vernon PAL Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 26, at the Fireman's Pavilion Pond, next to the Vernon Fire Department on Route 15.
