Vernon couple gives gift of cookies

VERNON — Santa Claus was seen at Mountain Creek Ski Resort on Dec. 25 skiiing with his elves, who included Buffy and John Whiting, who deliver homemade cookies to the snowmakers and lift attendants at Mountain Creek.

Santa, also known as Anthony from Union City was on hand to witness the presentation of the Christmas cookies to the resort’s lift attendants by Buffy Whiting, many of whom reside in Vernon and nearby Wantage as well as a number of workers who came to work at the resort from as far away as Chile in South America. The happy of Christmas cookies included Dakota Dotke, Courtney Dundorf, Chris Pirl, Stephen Kane Tomas Valdis, Tulin Sacazaw as well one of the regular ski buddies at Mountain Creek, Joe Kennedy.

Giving the gift of homemade Christmas cookies to the Mountain Creek staff on Christmas Day is a tradition started by the Whitings many years ago as their way of thanking their friends who work at the ski resort during the winter months and provide them and other visitors with such a great skiing and riding experience all season.
