Mohawk House will be hosting a holiday party fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Sparta-based non-profit One Step Closer Animal Rescue (O.S.C.A.R.). The event features a pet adoption day, food and supplies drive, raffle and prizes.

During the event, which is sponsored by both the Mohawk House and Franklin Sussex Auto Mall, guests can not only find their new best friend, but will be rewarded for making donations to the organization through the restaurant’s “you get what you give” promotion.

Customers who bring a donation of in-demand O.S.C.A.R. supplies — including dry puppy food, toys, Mighty Dog or Pedigree cans, PetArmor for large dogs, paper towels, kitten chow, non-clumping kitty litter, Whiskas kitten milk, Friskies canned food, leashes, towels, blankets, carriers, crates and beds — will be awarded a Mohawk House gift certificate matching their donation cost for their support. This promotion is offered only during the three-hour event on Sunday, and donations must accompany a valid register receipt.

“Rachael and I have always had a love of and commitment for animals,” Mohawk House owner Steve Scro said. “We joined forces with Franklin Sussex Auto Mall, and collectively asked what better way to give back to the community than to host a holiday party pet adoption day? We’re going big and making it great fun. We see how far the whole O.S.C.A.R. team go to make sure these animals are cared for and not left on the streets or in abusive households — we just felt the need to dig in and help any way we can.”

“With this event,” he added, “we hope to engage our community, raise much needed funds, gather essential supplies, and find as many ‘forever homes’ as we can for these displaced animals.”
