SUSSEX — The Sussex Borough Council unanimously agreed for Mayor Jonathan Rose to execute a contract for the payment of back sewer charges on Feb. 4.

Per an extensive audit to verify sewer connections vs. billing, the borough discovered that residents were connected to the sewer, but had not been billed.

The borough will recoup only the last six years of charges: $6,000, according to the state statute of limitations

Borough residents will pay the $6,000 in quarterly installments of $250, with no interest, as long as they do not go into arrears. If a payment is missed, the whole remaining balance is due.

    Audit history
The borough first discovered problems between connections vs. billing as a result of discovering the reverse situation where a customer paid connection fees for many years and were not connected to the sewer.

Thus, the Borough conducted an audit to verify connections to the sewer against actual billing.
