The Sussex Elks held a Summer Kickoff Saturday barbecue event to get the community involved on Saturday, May 24.

The Sussex Elks does a lot for special needs children, veterans and is very involved in drug abuse awareness causes. About 30 people came out to support the event; featured water games and a dunk tank for the kids to enjoy.

The barbecue was coordinated by Sussex Elks House Committee and Lodge officers Patty Green and her husband, Rick Green, their daughter Ashley Green and Ava Sandersen Schark.

It's a kick-off to the veteran's ceremony the Elks will host at High Point Monument on Sunday, June 1.
