Sussex Borough holds Christmas celebration
SUSSEX BOROUGH — Sussex Borough had fun at its annual tree lighting on Saturday as majestic pipe organ and choir renditions of “The 12 Days of Christmas” and “The First Noel” floated throughout Deckertown Commons.
The young in heart, and young in general, savored cups of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, courtesy of the Sussex Borough Recreation Committee.
After the tree lights began to glow, mothers' bundled up their little ones in the brisk night air, and Santa Claus arrived on the Sussex fire truck with lights flashing and sirens blaring.
The children followed Santa in wonder as he led them into the nearby theater. There he read aloud the Christmas classic, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The adults wondered even more that, “Not a creature was stirring,” not even a child.
Councilwoman Georgeanna Stoll smiled at the reward of her hard work, along with the Recreation Committee, as the children sat on Santa's lap and told him their requests for Christmas.
Santa then gave them bags full of goodies, and off they went to make a Christmas Craft.
Claus, resembling former Councilman Mario Poggi under an elegant white beard, said being Santa is “a big responsibility; a lot of little kids are depending on me.”
Mayor-Elect Katherine Little later confided that when she sat on Santa's lap, she told him she wants things in Sussex Borough to improve, and the council to all work together.
