Two seventh-graders at Sussex Middle School will perform at the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival on June 5.
Mariana Segura and Daniel Chiriboga, both 12, are in the honor chorus under the direction of Teresa Westling.
They were nominated for the state contest after they performed at the Sussex County Teen Arts Festival on March 12.
Westling is a Sussex-Wantage Regional School District alumna.
“My musical career started at Sussex Middle School, and I will be forever grateful for acquiring my position here at SMS. It is my dream job and I am truly blessed,” she said.
Daniel said his favorite part of the SMS chorus is the performances and community outreach activities.
“Mrs. Westling helped me a lot with the school musical. She inspires me to sing the best that I can.”
Mariana enjoys the chorus’ welcoming environment.
“Chorus is fun to be a part of and it is a place where you can express yourself in a creative way,” she said. “Mrs. Westling has helped me reach my goals and encouraged me to be my best self.”
