VERNON — Recently, a small group of teenagers from St. Francis De Sales Parish in Vernon participated in a summer service project.
The group spent a week in Rochester, N.Y., working with various local organizations, which included Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Charities and United Way in helping the elderly and disabled citizens of that community. The summer work mission was sponsored by a Catholic based program called: S.H.I.N.E., “Serving Him in the Needy and the Elderly,” which organizes similar groups throughout the country.
Along with their service, the teens were involved with daily spiritual activities, prayer and team building sessions.
