R.S. Phillips Steel honors longtime employee
VERNON. Stephen Ahern, who joined the company in 1978, became director of facilities and maintenance in 2007.
R.S. Phillips Steel, a family-owned Vernon business established in 1934, recently honored a longtime employees who has worked alongside three generations of the Phillips family for nearly 45 years.
Stephen Ahern, a resident of Wantage, joined the company in 1978 as a general employee.
He was promoted to foreman in 1986, then advanced to director of yard and fabrication in 1999. In 2007, he was promoted to director of facilities and maintenance.
The Phillips family paid tribute to Ahern, acknowledging that he has successfully kept their business a clean, efficient operation for decades. They are delighted that he has plans for a “long stay” with the company.
The celebration was at Industry Restaurant and Bar in Sparta, where the company fabricated and erected the modern building.
R.S. Phillips Steel, at 128 Lake Pochung Road in Vernon, is a full-service steel supplier and fabricator. It built the torch for the 2016 Special Olympics, the arched gate at the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta and the ski patrol tower at Vernon’s National Winter Activity Center.
