Whether an area resident or just passing by on a trip up or down Route 23, Franklin’s newest eatery has something for everyone.

The Sit n’ Chat Diner, located at 428 Route 23, serves breakfast all day and night and has a large selection of menu items for lunch and dinner, as well. Savvy diners will even recognize many of the menu items, as well as some of the wait staff, from the Vernon Diner, which owner Eric Blasone closed in order to open the new Franklin establishment.

“We moved on to bigger and better things,” he said of the larger location and expanded menu.

Blasone also gave the diner a new name — one that literally has people talking. “What do people do in a diner?” he asked. “It’s a talking place.”

Blasone also thanked his loyal Vernon clientele for following him to Franklin, many of whom travel the extra distance to get a taste of what made the Vernon Diner so popular.

“We still have over 50 different styles of pancakes,” he said.

The diner also continues its ‘Breakfast Challenge,’ in which an especially hungry diner’s appetite is challenged with four large pancakes, two eggs, any style, two sausages, home fries, toast and juice. If the customer can finish the plate (rather, plates) of food in less than 30 minutes, the meal is free. Seven people attempted the challenge this past Sunday, Blasone said, and they all failed.

New additions for the new location, which was a Hooters restaurant in its previous incarnation, include outdoor patio seating, a larger dining area, and a 10 percent discount for senior citizens and veterans all day, every day.

Upcoming specials for the month of August include buy two, get one free breakfast meals every Monday through Thursday from 7 – 10 a.m. and free meals for children with a paying adult all day Monday through Thursday.
