Mayor presents path for ‘Every Age, Every Season’

AUGUSTA — Working with the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, Vernon Township Mayor Harry Shortway and Michael Furrey, chairman of the Greenway Action Advisory Committee for a Sustainable Vernon, offered a presentation at the Ernest M. Kosa County Building on Monday afternoon.
The presentation described the township’s proposed Greenway System, called The Vernon Greenway. It presented our vision of a community-based project to build a recreational path that will span from Hardyston Township to Warwick, N.Y., which can be used year long.
The plans include a botanical garden, small-shop-type businesses along the path, a farmers’ market and more. The program’s motto is “Every Age, Every Season”.
The presentation included information about the Greenway Action Advisory Committee and its various subcommittees that include: Trail System/Open Space, Water and Wastewater Supply, Grant Applications and Funding, and Business Development.
The program’s mission statement is: “Sustainable Vernon was formed to promote and develop environmentally responsible amenities such as a trail system, parks, and gardens. The purpose is to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors and establish entrepreneurship leading to community sustainability. We are willing to review and advise about any environmental or economic issue that impacts the Township.”
