Aaron Dunn, a fifth-grade student at Montague Elementary School was recently awarded the position of leadership ambassador with the People to People Ambassador program, a worldwide educational travel organization.

Dunn was nominated by Mr. Finnegan, his fourth-grade teacher. His fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Runne, seconded the nomination. Dunn was nominated due to his outstanding scholastic merit, leadership potential and citizenship.

Dunn will travel to Washington D.C. in the fall of 2014 with other participants in the same age group with similar qualifications.

Student Leadership Ambassadors will visit the Smithsonian, the Air and Space Museum, witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, visit the memorials to veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Dunn also will visit the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress.

Young leadership ambassadors will stay at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, suburban campus just minutes from Washington, DC. They also will gain first-hand insight into the U.S. government from a current or former member of Congress. The leadership ambassadors will examine the leadership styles of prominent historical leaders such as George Washington and Martin Luther King Jr. They also will visit Washington's monuments and memorials, commemorating the U.S. Founding Fathers and fallen heroes.

"I am excited about this great opportunity to learn more about our government and American history,” Dunn said.

The People to People Ambassador Program is open to students grades 5 to 11. Students must be nominated by their teachers. For more information on the People to People Ambassador Program, visit the website, www.peopletopeople.com.
