Local business to host 1 Billion Rising event

VERNON — Ballroom Magic will celebrate Valentine's Day by becoming part of the 1 Billion ises event.

It is a day to celebrate women and end the violence. Dance instructors, Russ and Katy Fischer agree that dancing can move more than your feet. It can glide you through great causes.

This year, Ballroom Magic will do an encore of V-Day along with the AAUW-NJ Sussex County Branch. According to Vday.org, in 2013 more than 5,800 V-Day benefits took place. On Valentine's Day couples of Vernon and Sussex County danced in the spirit of V-Day — they shared belief that all women throughout the world should have the same life — one that is creative and thriving rather than spent recovering from violence. These V-Day dances have ushered a spirit that has reopened shelters, and funded more than 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Haiti, Kenya, Egypt, Iraq and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
