Libraries offer programs to encourage reading
NEWTON — The Sussex County Library System will launch three winter reading clubs (children, teens and adults) to entice reluctant readers and reward enthusiastic bibliophiles.
Visit any branch beginning Thursday, Dec. 26 to sign up for one of the programs listed below and get reading.
Each program is a one-time registration with prizes to be picked up each week for kids and teens and a raffle at the end for adults.
Be A Smart Cookie: Read is the theme for kids in preschool through sixth grade. For four weeks, from Jan. 6 through Jan. 31, each preschooler who reads 10 books, or older child who reads for at least six hours a week, can stop by any branch to pick up a cookie cutter and recipe. There will be a variety of cookie cutter shapes to choose from each week.
Carry Out A Good Book for teens rewards kids in grades 7-12 with a $1.00 off coupon from a local pizzeria for each week in January they read for at least six hours.
Snow Better Time To Read offers adults the chance to win a Google Nexus Tablet or a $100 Weis Gift Card. This program runs Jan. 6 through Feb. 28 and allows adults to enter one raffle ticket for each title read or listened to. Winners will be chosen from among all the entries at the end of the program. A one-time registration will be required and can be accomplished by calling or visiting any branch of the Sussex County Library System.
