Learning different styles of karate
VERNON — The Vernon Valley Karate Academy recently sponsored a seminar hosted by Sensei Rich Smaguler of Maywood. Sensei Smaguler is a karate instructor from the Okinawa Goju-Ryu karate style.
Sensei Tom Shull, owner and head instructor of the Vernon Valley Karate Academy, was very pleased with the techniques shared by Sensei Smaguler.
“I wanted my adult students to learn more about the depth of the Okinawa karate systems and the similarities and the differences in how we train and develop our martial arts skills.”
Students at the Vernon school study a style of karate called Shorin-Ryu. These two styles represent the original art as it evolved on this Japanese island.
“Sensei Smaguler has many years of experience and I was honored to have him share his expertise with my students,” commented Sensei Shull.
Vernon Valley Karate Academy is located at 73 Highland Lakes Road in Vernon. For more information call 973-764-3104.
