Top three issues: 1. As a lifelong resident of Vernon there are many issues that are important to me and my family. Lowering taxes is always a hot button. One way to do this is to increase the ratables in town, to do that we need new businesses. A tax incentive for new businesses would assist and should be considered. We also need a focus on areas where sewer and water are currently available for businesses and tackle the rest after. 2. I support the Short-Term rental tax. There are currently over 200 properties in town being used for this. Not only is this a potential opportunity to bring monies into the town, it also is a safety issue for the community to know if it is being used as a rental. If they are, they should be registered as such. 3. I also support parks and recreation as that is often seen as how livable a community is. Vernon needs to continue to be marketed as a 4-season town. Skiing/Snowboarding, Running, hiking (60 miles of marked trails), mountain biking, golf, Zip lining, horseback riding, apple picking, nearby breweries and wineries, just to name a few, are the things that continue to attract people of all ages to our beautiful town.
