Office Sought: Vernon Township Board of Education.
Age: 62
Political History: I have served for a total of 22 years on the Vernon Township Board of Education, having served from 1985 to 1994, from 1997 to 2009 and from 2018 until the present. During my time on the Board of Education I served on every regular committee, including finance, negotiations, transportation, buildings and grounds, community relations, liaison and curriculum.
Occupation: I enjoyed a career in the reinsurance industry, and have been busily retired since April, 2019.
Education: I have a B.A. from Glassboro State College, now Rowan University.
Family: I have resided in the Highland Lakes section of Vernon since 1963, spending summers with my family and later settling in Highland Lakes to raise my own family. I’m married to Maureen Sweeney, and we have six children, ranging in age from 36 down to 22, all of whom attended and graduated from the Vernon Township School District.
Top three issues: 1. Clearly a top priority of the Board of Education must be to continue address the financial situation that exists as a result of a reduction in state aid. 2. We need to continue to provide an outstanding education for all Pre-K to 12 children in our district. The standard of excellence that Vernon Township School District is known for should not be compromised because of funding. 3. Maintaining buildings and grounds, upgrading facilities and infrastructure, and analyzing the efficient and educationally appropriate building use is going to be a critical issue in the coming years.
