Historical Society plans sing-along

| 28 Dec 2015 | 03:57

“Old-Time Sing-Along with Dan Boltz ” will be held on Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Vernon Senior Citizens Center on Church Street.

The event is the first for 2016 of the society’s “Those Were the Days” series featuring old times in Vernon. The harmonious and gregarious Boltz, longtime trustee and member of the society, also known as “Dan the Pants Man,” will serve as virtuoso for this event, a first for the society. Well-known local musician Chris Brune will do the instrumental accompaniment.

The idea for the Old Time Sing-Along originated with Boltz, who is often heard singing or humming a vintage tune at many a Society event. Come join in the fun singing such songs as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Mairzy Doats and Chickery Chick,” “Stardust,” “You Are My Sunshine,” “Blue Skies,” “Dinah,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” and much more. These songs are part of all our historical heritage.

The audience is welcome to make requests at the event or call or email in advance to sign up to sing a solo or have the audience join in. Y

Past programs in the “Those Were the Days” series included hearing the stories of Vernon long-timers and old timers, featuring the township’s first schools and businesses, celebrating the township’s fire departments and ambulance squads, and various issues concerning the history of Vernon Township. The series has drawn hundreds to each event, and this one promises to be a great deal of fun. This series is just one of the many free programs and events the Vernon Township Historical Society offers to the community.

Admission for “Old Time Sing-Along with Dan Boltz” is free and open to the public and includes free refreshments.
