Sensei DeStefano, a third-degree black belt from the Academy of Koei-Kan Karate-Do, will lead a free, four-week series of Self Defense classes for women at the Main Library in Frankford.

Class will meet at 7 p.m. each Tuesday from September 3-24, and is open to ages 12-adult. Girls under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating female guardian.

Week one starts with basic awareness strategies, and factors that should influence the decision of whether to fight or divert attention and run. By week four participants will have learned the most effective areas to target, basic self-defense moves, basic escapes, and the role of attitude and confidence in self-protection.

Registration begins Aug. 20 through the Events Calendar link at sussexcountylibrary.org, or by stopping by or calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660, option 2.

Participants should only register if they can attend all four sessions, and come to class in t-shirt and sweatpants or leggings.
