Flag retirement

American Legion Post No. 213 and Sussex Elks Lodge No. 2288 performed a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Sundayat the American Legion Post No. 213 in Sussex. The formal service opened with words from Legion Vice Commander, Herman Terpstra and prayer from Legion Chaplain, William Aukema. The ceremony took more than an hour to retire more than 4000 flags collected by the Legion at drop boxes located at the Legion Post in Sussex as well as the Sussex-Wantage Library over the past year. In attendance were American Legion members Richard Bammert, Tom Stuard and Sargent at Arms, Bud Gordan; Sussex Elks Lodge members Esteemed Loyal Knight, Bill Morgan and Treasurer, Richard Green; Greg Smith with Venturing Crew No. 97 and members of the Sussex Fire Department were also in attendance.
