Firefighters’ race down slopes at Mountain Creek

As a fundraiser for The Burn Center at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, some 45 teams of firefighters came to Mountain Creek last Friday.

Previously an annual event held at Hidden Valley Ski Resort, with the resort’s closing last year the races are now being held at Mountain Creek. This year's races marked the 27th anniversary of the New Jersey Firefighters Ski Race.

Everyone seemed quite pleased with the change in venue, however, the race was held on the bottom of the Kamikaze expert slope and the steepness of the racecourse caught some of the teams off guard.

Of the 45 teams that raced, only 30 successfully completed the course. On a local level, both the Vernon and Wantage fire departments competed and finished the racecourse with Vernon placing 19th and Wantage placing 22nd.
