Cedar Mountain students finish astsronomy unit
VERNON — Anxiously sitting within the classroom, yet prepared for adventure, the fourth-grade students of Cedar Mountain Primary School took part in a Space Day Virtual Field Trip, on May 1, hosted by Discovery Education.
A culminating activity for the 4th Grade Science unit on Astronomy, the virtual field trip blasted off to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, where the students were able to live-stream video into their Science classroom and engage in realtime conversations with field experts on space exploration and issues affecting the solar system. Implementing additional modes of digital communication into the interactive experience, the students emailed and tweeted their inquisitive questions to the space center’s scientists and engineers; eager and excited for their prompt responses.
In addition to the science content the virtual field trip covered in great detail, the fourth graders also used Math skills to calculate distances between planets and to/from the sun.
