Cedar Mountain holds successful summer enrichment program
Vernon. Cedar Mountain Elementary School holds summer enrichment program from Aug. 2-13, serving 70 students among two grade levels.
Cedar Mountain Primary School in Vernon Township School District hosted their first Summer Enrichment Program from August 2-13, focusing on social and emotional learning for their kindergarten and first-grade students.
With about 70 students among the two grade levels, each of the ten days were overflowing with engaging educational activities, designed to help students become more acclimated to the school environment.
CMPS teachers held morning meetings with their classes to develop a sense of structure and routine for the students, and then each day, everyone participated in group activities such as scavenger hunts, water games, and building kits as a very donation from the Home Depot in Middletown, N.Y..
Students and their families took two trips into the community.
On Wednesday, Aug. 11, CMPS went to The Farm at Glenwood Mountain located on County Road 565 in Sussex, NJ. Steve and Candice MacLean were gracious hosts and took students on tours to see the pigs, chickens, turkey, and ducks.
On Thursday, Aug. 12, students and their families went to Maple Grange Park, where they took a walk on the trail, enjoyed the playground, and played cornhole, soccer, and water balloons. It was a beautiful day in the park. These events helped our students explore the beautiful Vernon community and all that it has to offer its residents for recreation and fun. Town resident Denise Clark, kindly volunteered her time on the last day of the enrichment program, Aug. 13, to host an outdoor dance party with the students to celebrate a wonderful two weeks.
The Summer Enrichment Program was funded by ESSER II monies allocated from the state, providing students learning opportunities at such an unprecedented time.
