Bee Hive features treasures galore

The Bee Hive Thrift Shop, located on the corner of Spring Street and Moran in Newton, is chock full of donated and consigned furniture, clothing, jewelry, books, children's items, china, various knickknacks and countless other treasures.

Operated by the Auxiliary of Newton Medical Center, The Bee Hive functions completely on volunteer hours donated by about 65 volunteers who bustle around the store sporting their signature coral-colored jacket uniforms. The Bee Hive's one employee is Michele Boyce, who is the manager and oversees all the daily operations.

Boyce of Stillwater, is no stranger to retail as her previous job was managing the Frogmore Country Elegance Store in Andover. She took over the reigns as manager at the Bee Hive in October 2011 wanting a change and new challenge.

"There are so many facets to the job," she said, and it does require a lot of work but Boyce loves what she does and cannot say enough about the dedication of the hospital's auxiliary volunteers.

Boyce's coming in as manager saw a lot more organization in the store.

One of the things about The Bee Hive is never knowing what will pass through its doors. Everything from exotic murals to pieces of furniture and lamps to brand name articles of clothing to plates, dishes and china of all sorts come through so the advice to the customer is to check back often.

Donations are accepted daily Tuesday through Fridays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All profits from The Beehive benefit Newton Medical Center.
