Andover police investigating accident that killed pedestrian
Andover. Andover Township police are investigating an accident that struck and killed John A. Nordmeyer on Sept. 25. Police said he was walking along Route 206 and may have been trying to remove debris from the road. He was struck by a white Acura traveling northbound.

Andover Township police are investigating the accident that struck and killed an 88-year-old Sparta man shortly before 8 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the corner of Route 206 and Brighton Road.
John A. Nordmeyer had been operating a 2009 Chevy Malibu when he exited the vehicle and began walking along Route 206. It is believed he exited his vehicle to remove debris from the roadway when he struck by a white Acura traveling northbound.
Nordmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene and the road remained closed for approximately 6 hours.
The accident remains under investigation by the Andover Township Police Department, NJSP Fatal Accident Unit and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police said there may have been an encounter in which Nordmeyer spoke with another party operating a Ford Ranger pickup just prior to the accident.
