High Point teacher is top tech educator

Brian Drelick from High Point Regional High School was recognized as its 2004 high school teacher of the year at the recent conference for the Technology Educators Association of New Jersey. Drelick was recognized for his dedication to the students, curriculum development and teaching style. Drelick took his Technology Student Association Chapter to the state TSA competitive events where they were awarded four first-place trophies, three second place finishes and a third in Engineering and Technological events. "Mr. Drelick has been instrumental in improving the curriculum in the Technological Studies Department at High Point" said Supervisor Mark Wallace. "Drelick has designed and implemented our new Power, Energy and Transportation Technology series of courses. Enrollment has doubled and the students are learning about various transportation systems and designing and building solutions to problems related to energy and transportation. "Mr. Drelick can utilize information technology for teaching and student learning," Wallace continued in a prepared statement. "His developments of Power Point presentations are remarkable tools to teach students, via Smart Board technology, the content of the program. Brian also teaches Engineering Design Technology 2 & 3. "He has the teaching gift," Wallace added. "It must have come from his parents who are both respected teachers in Sussex County. The College of New Jersey also knows how to prepare students to teach technology education." High Point was awarded the High School Program Excellence Award from TEANJ in 2003 and the state's first Five Star Award for Technology Education Excellence. Drelick will be up for National Recognition next year from the International Technology Education Association.
