VERNON - Town Manager Don Teolis has proposed working with the Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Vernon residents and the county to help clean up Vernon's streets. Teolis would also like to use about $2,000 of a $37,000 grant to fund cleanup procedures, he said at Monday's town council meeting. Some possible programs would be to "Adopt a Road" or to clean up the roadside. Part of that grant has been set aside for a street sweeping machine, said Teolis. "It sounds like it's a winner to me," said Deputy Mayor Janet Morrison when Teolis brought the matter up at the meeting. Teolis mentioned the success of the Earthfest cleanup effort in Highland Lakes. If citizens wish to become involved, they can check coming updates on the Vernon Web site, http://www.vernontwp.com. The Chamber of Commerce will also advertise for the effort, said Teolis. "It really makes a difference when the sides of the roads are clean," said Councilman Jeff Patterson.
