Annie
FRANKLIN-The stage of the Franklin School will turn into the streets of "NYC" this weekend as the students become the comic strip stars of the musical "Annie." Annie, Lauren Caldera, is a veteran of the stage, having appeared in the school's previous productions. Her dog, Sandy, is played by Samantha Paszkiel, who gives a "howling good" performance. Miss Hannigan, played by Lauren DeVore, is the delightfully loathsome superintendent of the orphanage, and Keldon Litteral is the very rich Daddy Warbucks. The orphans are played by Donna Stoll, Janny Zerna, Jessica Selle, Kristina Garrera, Mary Hocking, and Amanda Silva. With a cast of 36 performers and a backstage crew of seven, the production allows every participant to display their particular talent. Co-directors Bethany Feranec and Steve Sandor praised the dedication of the children. "It is the school's policy," said Sandor, "that every child who comes out for the play is going to have a place. No one is turned away." He continued, "We have chosen a play that accommodates all the students." Judy Gutlerner, who has been teaching music for 25 years, handled the choreography and contributed to the staging, in addition to music. The directors acknowledged the cooperation of the administration, in particular Principal Patricia Pfeil, the board of education, and the home-school association. The Broadway production, which opened in April 1977 ran for six years and 2,377 performances. It was awarded five Tony awards including Best Musical and Best Actress, Dorothy Louden. The play will be presented at 7 p.m. tonight, May 12, and Friday, May 13 in Franklin Borough School, Washington Avenue. Admission is free.
