Wesley A. Rude, 87, died Monday Feb. 10, 2014, at the home of his daughter in Franklin. Mr. Rude, son of the late Abram H. and Phoebe Rude, was born in Hamburg on Feb. 15, 1926, and has resided in Vernon for the past 58 years.

Mr. Rude was a miner for the NJ Zinc Co., working in the Ogdensburg mine form 1948-53. He then went to work for Plastoid Corp. at their Franklin plant, where he worked until 1977. Mr. Rude retired in 1997 from Chester Cable and Wire in Chester, N.Y., where he was a die cutter. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, having served in the third Army, 16th Armored Division under the command of Gen. George Patton. He was also a member of the Drum & Bugle Corps during WWII. Mr. Rude was a member of Wallkill Valley VFW Post 8441 of Vernon.

Mr. Rude loved to read, fish and attend his children’s sports and other events. He also enjoyed woodcarving, skiing, gardening and making wine.

Mr. Rude was predeceased by his brothers and a sister, Walter Rude, Sonny Tottin and Kay Fredericks. He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Cassidy) Rude; daughters, Bonnie Gaynor and her husband, Jeff, of Franklin and Vickie Haggerty and her husband, Bill, of Culvers Lake; sister, Jeanette Deichel of West Milford; grandchildren, Brie Kolan, Aimee Kolan, Devin Haggerty and his wife, Ashlee, and Erin Haggerty; great-grandchildren, Brody, Briden and Mason, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St. Franklin. Interment will follow at Frankford Plains Cemetery.
