John J. Caffrey Sr. of Wantage, N.J., peacefully passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, at his residence. He was 76.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to the late Dr. John Jerome and Kathleen (Lavery) Caffrey, Mr. Caffrey grew up in Wilkes-Barre graduating from Scranton Prep and King’s College before moving to Sussex County. He had been a teacher in Branchburg, N.J., before becoming a route salesman for Frito-Lay in Dover and retired at age 62.
Mr. Caffrey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Angela (Garvey); daughter, Christa Kallam and her husband, Michael, of North Carolina; son, John J. Caffrey Jr. and his fiancé, Jennifer Terribile, of Branchburg, N.J.; sisters, Kathy Grabiec and her husband, Joe, of Wilkes-Barre and Eugenia “Gigi” Wolensky and her husband, Jack, of Shavertown, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren, Ethan, Maddie, Noah, and Michael Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14, at Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Avenue, Dallas, Pa. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wyoming, Pa. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Thursday, May 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140N. Main St., Shavertown, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral arrangements were made by the Pinkel Funeral Home, Sussex, N.J.
