James J. Vanderbeek
James J. Vanderbeek, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014. Born on March 11, 1934 in Teaneck to the late Vincent and Vivian Vanderbeek, Jim had lived in Harrington Park before moving to Sussex County. He had served in the United States Army during peacetime. He was employed as a postal carrier for the United States
Postal Service in Teaneck for 40 years before his retirement. He had played with the Cleveland Indians organization as a left-handed pitcher in the 1950s. He loved sports, especially hockey and was an avid Metsfan. He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth Vanderbeek in 1999. Jim is survived by his wife, Rita; his son, Stephan Wall of Harrison; his three daughters, Elaine Golomb of Park Ridge, Donna Guerrero and her husband, Di, of Park Ridge, Karin Bortolato and her husband, Mike, of West Milford; six grandchildren; and two great granddaughters. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex, N.J. Mass of
Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Monica R.C. Church, 33 Unionville Avenue, Sussex. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
